The Washington Wizards finished up the 2011-12 season with a 20-46 record (30.3%). On a bright note, they won six games in a row to finish the season. Here is a look at the players who made the biggest impacts this year:

Team MVP: John Wall - 21-year old point guard John Wall was the best player on the Wizards last year. He played in 66 games (all starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 36.2 minutes, 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Wall was the focal part of the defensive game plan for opposing teams and he still got his points and assists.

Biggest Surprise: Trevor Booker - 24-year old power forward Trevor Booker got his shot to show what he could really do in the middle of the 2011-12 season and he looked good before an injury ended his year early. Booker played in 50 games (32 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 25.2 minutes, 8.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.0 steal per game on 53.1% shooting from the floor. He has a nice upside.

Biggest Disappointment: Andray Blatche - The Wizards gave 25-year old Andray Blatche a nice big contract and he paid them back with an utter lack of effort. Blatche played in 26 games (13 starts) for the Wizards last year and he avearaged 24.1 minutes, 8.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists on 38% shooting from the floor. He is going to have to come to training camp focused and motivated to get back into the good graces of Wizards’ management.

The Wizards got a good look at their trio of rookies in 2011-12, especially late in the year. 22-year old forward Chris Singleton got the most P.T. this year for the Wizards. He played in 66 games (51 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 21.7 minutes, 4.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Singleton only shot 37.2% from the floor, 34.6% from three point range and 68.2% from the free throw line last year, so he will need to improve his shot selection next year. 22-year old power forward Jan Vesely got to play more in the second half last year and he looked pretty solid. Vesely played in 57 games (20 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 18.9 minutes, 4.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He has a nice upside. 23-year old guard Shelvin Mack played in 64 games (0 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 12.2 minutes, 3.6 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

52-year old Randy Wittman took over as the interim head coach when Flip Saunders was fired. When Wittman took over, the Wizards were a mess as the were 2-15. Wittman finished up with an 18-31 (36.7%) and he got the Wizards to end the 2011-12 season on a 6-game winning streak. I don’t know if the winning streak will be enough to save his job or not…..only time will tell. Wittman is now 118-238 (33.1%) in his first six years as an NBA head coach and that doesn’t inspire much confidence in him.
