JaVale McGee is playing at a high level for the Washington Wizards

You can’t blame the Wizards slow start on 24-year old center JaVale McGee, as he has been solid for them so far this year. McGee has played in 18 games (all starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 29.1 minutes, 10.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 3.0 blocked shots per game. He is shooting 51.7% from the floor so far this year, but most of his points are coming from putbacks and dunks. McGee really needs to start working harder on his free throw shooting as he is only hitting 40.4% from the charity stripe…and that’s pathetic. If McGee could improve his free throw shooting just a little bit, he would be able to pump up his scoring average because he gets fouled a lot.

JaVale McGee has been playing great basketball for the Washington Wizards

It’s hard to blame 23-year old center JaVale McGee for the fact that the Wizards have sucked so far this year. McGee has played in 7 games (all starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 30.0 minutes, 12.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.0 blocked shots per game. McGee has shot 52.7% from the floor as most of his shots come from pretty close to the basket. But, he is only shooting 45.5% from the free throw line, which is a problem as he gets fouled a lot.

Nick Young is stepping up for the Washington Wizards so far this year

26-year old SG Nick Young could have whined about being the sixth man for the Wizards, but instead he has seemed to embrace his new role. Young has played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 24.5 minutes, 18.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He is shooting 57.1% from the floor and he is 3 for 6 (50%) on three pointers so far this year. If Young keeps playing like he is right now and Jordan Crawford continues to struggle, they could swap roles in the near future.

Andray Blatche stepped up his game last year for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Sunday 5 June 2011 at 9:03 pm

24-year old power forward Andray Blatche stepped up his game on the court last year for the Wizards. Blatche played in 64 games (63 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 33.9 minutes, 16.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He has now played in 383 games (163 starts) in his first six years with the Wizards and he is averaging 22.6 minutes, 10.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Blatche showed a ton of potential last year and the Wizards hope he keeps up the good work. But, he’s going to have to learn to act like an adult both on and off the court to realize what kind of player he can really be.

Nick Young finally showed he could play last year for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 5 May 2011 at 6:11 pm

25-year old shooting guard Nick Young finally got extended minutes last year from the Wizards and he looked pretty good. Young played in 64 games (40 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 31.8 minutes, 17.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He has now played in 295 games (70 starts) in his first four years with the Wizards and he averaged 21.9 minutes, 10.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. The thing that really drives me nuts about Young is that he only seems to care about scoring as he doesn’t like to rebound, pass or play defense.
