Is Andray Blatche really a player the Washington Wizards can build around?

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 13 May 2010 at 4:55 pm

23-year old, 6′11″, 248 pound PF/C Andray Blatche’s play really took off when the Wizards had there little fire sale near the trade deadline. But he got into trouble with the coach despite playing terrific basketball. I think that Coach Saunders and Blatche should mend the fences because they need each other. Blatche played in 81 games (36 starts) for the Wizards last season and he averaged 27.9 minutes, 14.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He has now played in 319 games (100 starts) in his five years with the Wizards and he has averaged 20.3 minutes, 8.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. I think that Blatche is just starting to come into his own and I think he will be the best player on the Wizards in 2010-2011.

JaVale McGee is stepping up as of late for the Washington Wizards

22-year old, 7-foot center JaVale McGee is really stepping up lately for the Wizards. In his last five games, McGee is averaging 22.0 minutes, 14.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 2.2 blocked shots per game. It is starting to look like McGee might be capable of replacing Brendan Haywood (traded to Dallas) as the Wizards starting center next year. Overall, he has played in 58 games (19 starts) in which he is averaging 15.7 minutes, 6.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.6 blocked shots per game. McGee appears to be a player on the rise.

Shaun Livingston might be a keeper for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 6 April 2010 at 10:32 am

The Wizards weren’t expecting much out of 24-year old point guard Shaun Livingston when they signed him to a 10-day contract earlier this season. But the kid is proving to be the real deal as he has worked his way into the starting lineup. In his last three games, Livingston is averaging 38.0 minutes, 15.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. Overall this season, Livingston has played in 20 games (12 starts) for the Wizards in which he is averaging 22.5 minutes, 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Livingston is still young enough to be a key player for the Wizards down the road if he can just stay healthy.

Andray Blatche continues to roll for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 23 March 2010 at 9:28 am

Andray Blatche has really been solid since getting inserted into the starting lineup for the Wizards. Blatche has played in 11 games this March and he is averaging 37.5 minutes, 21.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He has now played in 67 games (22 starts) for the Wizards and he is averaging 26.2 minutes, 12.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Blatche is looking like a player the Wizards can build the team around in the near future.

Alonzo Gee is making a good first impression for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 23 March 2010 at 9:24 am

22-year old SG/SF Alonzo Gee has really played well since signing with the Wizards. Gee has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Wizards this season in which he has averaged 13.3 minutes, 6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Gee is shooting 53.1% from the floor for the Wizards as he has been really good with his shot selection so far. He has the look of a keeper for the Wizards.

UPDATE: The Wizards declined to sign Gee for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expired. That allowed the San Antonio Spurs to swoop in and sign him. Gee played in 11 games (2 starts) for the Wizards this season and he averaged 16.5 minutes, 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. This was another dumb move by the Wizards.
