The Washington Wizards shut down four more players for the year

Blogged under Comings & Goings, General, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Injuries, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 6 April 2011 at 8:17 am

The Wizards have shut down SG Nick Young (knee), SG/SF Josh Howard (knee), rookie center Hamady N’Diaye (ankle) and SF Cartier Martin (ankle) for the rest of the 2010-11 season. 25-year old Nick Young had a breakout year for the Wizards. He played in 64 games (40 starts) for the Wizards this year and he averaged 31.8 minutes, 17.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Young will be a big part of the Wizards’ future. 30-year old Josh Howard has likely played his last game for the Wizards. He played in 18 games (10 starts) for the Wizards this year and he averaged 22.7 minutes, 8.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. 24-year old rookie center Hamady N’Diaye played in 15 games (0 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 4.7 minutes, 0.9 points and 0.4 rebounds per game. He didn’t play too much so it’s hard to evaluate him right now. 26-year old small forward Cartier Martin played in 52 games (1 start) for the Wizards this year and he averaged 10.4 minutes, 4.0 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. The Wizards can’t wait for this season to end due to the gigantic rash of injuries they have suffered.

UPDATE: (4/7/2011) - The Wizards have waived Cartier Martin.

The Washington Wizards sign Othyus Jeffers

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 18 March 2011 at 3:31 pm

The Wizards have signed 25-year old shooting guard Othyus Jeffers to a 10-day contract. He played in 1 game for the Spurs earlier this season as he worked 8 minutes in which he had 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Jeffers has now played in 15 games (0 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 5.4 minutes, 2.6 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. Due to all of the recent injuries, the Wizards will likely give Jeffers some P.T. right away.

The Washington Wizards waive Al Thornton

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 1 March 2011 at 8:18 pm

The Washington Wizards bought out 27-year old small forward Al Thornton and then they waived him. Thornton played in 49 games (23 starts) for the Wizards this season and he averaged 21.8 minutes, 8.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. In two years with the Wizards, Thornton played in 73 games (39 starts) in which he averaged 23.9 minutes, 8.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. The Wizards figured they had enough small forwards and the buy out saved them some cash, so this move made sense for them.

The Washington Wizards buy out Mike Bibby

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 28 February 2011 at 3:31 pm

The Washington Wizards have bought out 32-year old point guard Mike Bibby. Bibby played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Wizards after coming over in a deal with the Hawks and he averaged 14.5 minutes, 1.0 point, 1.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Bibby only shot 1 of 9 (11.1%) from the floor and he was 0 for 4 from three point range as he had a rough time with the Wizards. He left significant money on the table to take the buy out from the Wizards. Don’t be surprised if Bibby winds up on the Miami Heat.

The Washington Wizards deal Kirk Hinrich to the Hawks

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 23 February 2011 at 10:57 pm

The Washington Wizards have dealt 30-year old guard Kirk Hinrich and 26-year old center Hilton Armstrong to the Hawks for 32-year old point guard Mike Bibby, 32-year old SG/SF Maurice Evans, 22-year old guard Jordan Crawford and a 1st round pick. Mike Bibby is starting to slow down but he will likely back up John Wall the rest of this season. Bibby has played in 56 games (all starts) for the Hawks this season and he averaged 29.9 minutes, 9.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 44.1% shooting from 3-point range. Bibby has now played in 938 games (934 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 35.0 minutes, 15.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Maurice Evans is a veteran who could give the Wizards solid minutes off the bench. Evans played in 47 games (12 starts) for the Hawks this season and he was averaging 17.8 minutes, 4.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He has now played in 51 games (111 starts) in his NBA career so far and he is averaging 19.3 minutes, 6.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Jordan Crawford was the Hawks’ first round pick this season but he was buried on the bench. He played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Hawks this season and he averaged 10.0 minutes, 4.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game on only 35.1% shooting from the floor. Crawford has a nice upside.

Kirk Hinrich played in 48 games (29 starts) for the Wizards this season and he averaged 30.6 minutes, 11.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Hinrich was the #3 guard for the Wizards but he will start at point guard for the Hawks. Hilton Armstron played in 41 games (2 starts) for the Wizards this season and he averaged 10.0 minutes, 1.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.

I think this was a outstanding deal for the Wizards as they essentially got two first round picks for Kirk Hinrich.
