It appears as if the Washington Wizards have acquired Kirk Hinrich from the Bulls

Blogged under Comings & Goings, General, The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 24 June 2010 at 6:08 pm

It appears as if the Wizards will acquire 29-year old SG/PG Kirk Hinrich and the #17 overall pick in the draft from the Bulls for a future 2nd round pick. The trade can’t be announced until July 8th because the Wizards won’t have the cap space until then. Hinrich played in 74 games (53 starts) last season for the Bulls and he averaged 33.5 minutes, 10.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Hinrich has now played in 514 games (433 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 34.0 minutes, 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Hinrich can swing between the point or shooting guard which really gives the Wizards a nice bunch of players at guard. This was a great trade for the Wizards.

UPDATE: (7/8/2010) - The Wizards have traded the rights to 25-year old power forward Vladimir Veremeenko to the Bulls to complete this trade. He was a draft pick of the Wizards in 2006 who has been playing in Russia.

The Washington Wizards sign Cartier Martin

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 30 March 2010 at 4:49 pm

The Wizards have signed 25-year old SG/SF Cartier Martin to a 10-day contract. Martin played in 10 games (2 starts) for the Warriors earlier this season and he averaged 27.6 minutes, 9.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Martin has now played in 43 games (3 starts) in his NBA career in which he has averaged 12.6 minutes, 4.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Martin is only shooting 36.4% from the floor in his career so Wizards’ fans shouldn’t get too excited as the team would have been better off signing Alonzo Gee for the rest of the year instead of letting him bolt to the Spurs.

Alonzo Gee is making a good first impression for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 23 March 2010 at 9:24 am

22-year old SG/SF Alonzo Gee has really played well since signing with the Wizards. Gee has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Wizards this season in which he has averaged 13.3 minutes, 6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Gee is shooting 53.1% from the floor for the Wizards as he has been really good with his shot selection so far. He has the look of a keeper for the Wizards.

UPDATE: The Wizards declined to sign Gee for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expired. That allowed the San Antonio Spurs to swoop in and sign him. Gee played in 11 games (2 starts) for the Wizards this season and he averaged 16.5 minutes, 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. This was another dumb move by the Wizards.

The Washington Wizards release Mike James

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 2 March 2010 at 1:30 pm

The Wizards have bought out Mike James and released him. James played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Wizards this season and he averaged 11.5 minutes, 4.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. James played in 57 games (50 starts) in his two years with the Wizards and he averaged 28.4 minutes, 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. The Wizards did James a favor as he will try to hook on with a playoff team.

The Wizards have signed 24-year old point guard Shaun Livingston to a 10-day contract. Livingston played in 10 games (0 starts) earlier this season for the Thunder and he averaged 13.0 minutes, 1.0 point, 2.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He has now played in 167 games (61 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 25.8 minutes, 6.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. If he is healthy Livingston could help the Wizards.
