The Washington Wizards invite three players to training camp
The Wizards have invited 25-year old small forward Cartier Martin, 35-year old F/C Sean Marks and 26-year old shooting guard Lester Hudson to training camp where they will all be competing for bench spots. Martin will have the best chance of making the team as he played with the Wizards at the end of the 2009-10 season. Martin played in 18 games (2 starts) with the Warriors & Wizards last season in which he averaged 21.7 minutes, 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. He has now played in 51 games (3 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 12.9 minutes, 4.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Sean Marks played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Hornets last season and he averaged 5.4 minutes, 0.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. Marks has now played in 201 games (11 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 10.3 minutes, 3.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Lester Hudson played in 25 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies & Celtics as a rookie last year and he averaged 5.2 minutes, 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. None of these guys are likely to play big minutes for the Wizards in 2010 but it doesn’t hurt to give them a chance to show what they can do in training camp.

Last comment that none of the invitees are likely to play big minutes is some what disturbing, especially as far as Sean Marks is concerned. Having followed his career, especially his international career where he has played well against the best in the world, it is obvious he is a great player, but lack of minutes in the NBA has prevented NBA fans, and his team mates, seeing just how good a player he is. I am hoping he is given a chance to show his worth this season.
International ball is not the same as the NBA. Marks just hasn’t cut it when he has gotten a chance to play in the NBA. I would be shocked if he got to play more than 5-6 minutes a night if he makes the Wizards opening day roster.
That’s right international ball is not the same as the NBA - its about team play and skills, not show boating and high light reels.
