Gilbert Arenas suspended indefinitely

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Wizards News by Andrew on Wednesday 6 January 2010 at 7:40 pm

NBA commissioner David Stern has suspended Washington Wizards’ guard Gilbert Arenas indefinitely without pay, after his recent idiotic incident in which he brandished four guns in the Washington Wizards’ locker room.  The incident occurred on December 21st with teammate Javaris Crittenton, two days after the two had a heated argument on the team plane over a gambling debt.  Arenas has really been downplaying the incident, saying it was a joke and it has been blown out of proportion.  Joke or no joke, guns are a serious concern and they are not allowed on league property and Arenas’ lack of seriousness regarding this situation has almost been as bad as the situation itself.  His behavior following it sealed his faith, with strange Twitter posts and the even dumber move of  pretending to “shoot” his fellow Wizards’ teammates with his finger during pre-game warm-ups last night in Philadelphia.  Usually the NBA likes to wait until the authorities finish their investigation, but Arenas’ actions gave Stern little choice but to suspend Arenas.  He has been sending a terrible message to NBA fans and it is the complete opposite of the image the NBA wants to present.  Arenas has so much talent, he really needs to get his mind right and grow up or he will never be a winner in this league.
