The 2006-2007 Washington Wizards by the numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 19 April 2007 at 1:11 pm

The Wizards finished in 2nd place in the Southeast Division, 3 games behind the Miami Heat.  They were a solid 26-15 at home, but only 15-26 on the road.  The Wizards were 27-25 against Eastern Conference teams and they were 8-8 in the Division.  The Wiz averaged 104.3 points per game but they allowed a poor 104.9 points per game.  They limp into their playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers having won only 2 of their last 10 games!

The Washington Wizards need more from Roger Mason

With all of the major injuries suffered by the Wizards they need Roger Mason to step up.  He has played in 7 games this April and he’s averaging 2.4 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.  He’s also shooting very poorly as he’s only hit 22.2% of his shots from the floor and he’s 3 for 15 from three-point range.

DeShawn Stevenson is stepping up for the Washington Wizards

DeShawn Stevenson is picking up his offensive game with Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler both out for the season.  In his last 7 games, Stevenson has averaged 17.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  The Wizards really needed someone to back up Antwan Jamison on the offense and it looks like Stevenson may be up to the task.

The Washington Wizards are falling apart before our very eyes

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Wizards News, Front Page by alleyoop on Sunday 8 April 2007 at 8:34 pm

The Wizards are imploding because of all of the injuries they have suffered.  They have lost their last 4 games and only have won 2 of their last 10.  They have fallen 3 games behind the Heat for the Southeast Division lead and they are 3 games ahead of the Nets for the #6 slot in the Eastern Conference.  The Wizards will likely hang on to the #6 slot and have to play either the Toronto Raptors or the Miami Heat which won’t bode well for them.

The Washington Wizards need a trio of players to step up because of the injuries

Blogged under Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 5 April 2007 at 4:01 pm

With the injuries to Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas the Wizards will need DeShawn Stevenson, Jarvis Hayes and Antonio Daniels to step up their games.  Stevenson has been a starter all season long and he’s averaging 11.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.  The Wizards will need him to be more selfish on offense as he does have the ability to average 15+ points per game.  Antonio Daniels will take over Gilbert Arenas’ starting job at point guard the rest of the season.  He is averaging 20.5 minutes, 6.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.  The Wizards will need him to double those averages the rest of the way.  Jarvis Hayes will step into Caron Butler’s spot in the starting lineup and they will need him to pick up his offensive game.  He has averaged only 18.7 minutes, 6.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  The Wizards will need him to more than double his previous production during this season.
